Huangguoshu Waterfall is located 127 kilometers(79 miles) to the southwest of Guiyang, the capital city of Guzhou Province. It is the largest and most magnificent waterfall in China. The waterfall is one of the must-see attractions in Guizhou Province. It was designated as a national park in 1982.
The waterfall has become well-known since Xu Xiake recorded it in his travel notes. Xu Xiake(1587-1641) was a celebrated travel writer and geographer of the Ming Dynasty. He was also the first man in China who devoted his life to travelling. With in 30 years, Xu Xiake traveled around Mainland China. He left his footprints more than half of the country and composed a book entitled as the Travel Records of Xu Xiake. The book is a remarkable work of geography, history and ethnology. The Yangtze River rises on the Qinghai-Tibet High Plateau. It is a great discovery achieved by Xu Xiake.
Huangguoshu Waterfall National Park covers an area of 115 square kilometers(44 sq.mi). There are many sightseeing spots in the park. The main waterfall cascades down with a drop of 67 meters(220 feet) and a width of 83.3 meters(273 feet).
The name Huangguoshu also refers to a group of waterfalls at the centerpiece of the park, which is a 78-meter(256-foot) drop and a 101-meter(331-foot) span. The widest waterfall of the cluster is called Doupotang. It is a 21-meter(69-foot) drop, is 105 meters(344-foot) in width.
Tianxing-Bridge is one of the wonders in the park, is known as a beautiful natural bonsai. It lies some 6 kilometers(3.7 miles) downstream from the main waterfall and features the divers landscapes, such as stone forest, Karst caves and lakes.
How to Get to Huangguoshu Waterfall
Huangguoshu Waterfall is situated in the southwest of Anshun Prefecture. Tourists need to travel to Guiyang first, and then ride a car or bus to the waterfall. It takes about two hours to get to the waterfall from downtown Guiyang by car.
Photography Tips
A tripod, a filter, telephoto lenses and wide angle lenses are needed. It is suggested to set your camera into the manual mode with a small aperture and a long exposure.
